Planetary Data Training Workshop - Planetary Photogrammetry
The Space Imagery Center conducts biannual workshops on planetary photogrammetry, supported by NASA's Topical Workshops, Symposia, and Conferences program. These workshops introduce the fundamental principles of stereophotogrammetry and structure-from-motion (SfM) techniques, and the skills necessary to make a Digital Terrain Model from stereo image pairs and SfM image sets. Participants gain hands-on experience with applications such as BAE System's SOCET SET, Ames Stereo Pipeline, and Agisoft Metashape.
The workshop is intended for researchers at any level (student to senior professional) who want to learn to generate their own stereo products. No prior expertise is required. Due to the specialized hardware required for SOCET SET, attendance is in-person only and is limited to 10 people. There is no fee to attend, but participants are responsible for their own travel expenses.
We offer two travel grants, of up to $2000 each, that aim to strengthen the Planetary Science Workforce. Applicants for our travel grants would complete a form that includes contact information, academic and demographic information, name and email of 1-2 recommenders (letters are submitted directly from the recommender, not through the applicant), and a personal statement.
Logistical information on visiting LPL and the Space Imagery Center can be seen here.
As we can only support ten attendees, we will confirm your spot shortly after registration for each workshop closes. Please do not make any travel arrangements until we confirm we have a place for you.
